ABOUT ABOUT

The Palmetto Center for the Arts Theatre Company at Richland Northeast High School will present the musical, SISTER ACT, Thursday through Saturday, March 30 through April 1, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, April 2 at 3:00 PM in the Richland District Two Auditorium, on the Richland Northeast campus.  Tickets are $5.00 for students and $7.00 for adults and may be purchased at the door.

Featuring a show-stopping score of gospel and disco by Tony winner, Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater, SISTER ACT is a feel-good musical comedy, based on the 1992 smash hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg! It tells the story of aspiring disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, whose dreams of a professional career are put on hold when she witnesses a murder committed by her gangster boyfriend and is put into protective custody in a convent by a former high school friend turned cop.  There she immediately runs into trouble with the Mother Superior and is assigned to use her musical talent to help a faltering  choir find their voice, an opportunity that not only transforms the choir, but Deloris’ life as well.

The talented cast features Nicole Siebles and Alicia Robinson double cast as Deloris, along with Darius Darby and Jacob Wilkinson doubling as Curtis, the gangster boyfriend. Darius Adamson performs the role of “Sweaty Eddie,” the cop, and Gracie Boyce takes on the role of the Mother Superior with Justin Castro cast as the Monsignor. Jazmine Rivera portrays Sister Mary Robert, the young innocent postulate, and Sisters Mary Patrick, Mary Lazarus, Mary Martin of Tours and Mary Theresa are played by Jessica Geiger, Tyra Brown-Wallace, Margaret Greene, and Catherine Kelley respectively. Trey Weaver, Ajai Cave, Darius Lee and Corin Wiggins portray Curtis’ thugs. Others in the ensemble of nuns, bar patrons and homeless include Alexandra Brooks, Shatnee Thomas, Jeryi Dunbar, Jamie Collins, Gloria Smith, Charvion Whittenburg, Trenity Reese, Rebekah Johnson, Jabrie Drakes, Omaria Murray-Broadwater, Waliya Henry,  Lanesha Brown, Kelila Blackwell, Dennis Cheeks and John Jeffery.

The musical is being presented in collaboration with the Richland Northeast Foundation, which will feature a “Dinner and the Show” event, Saturday, April 1st  with appetizers at 5:00 pm, dinner  and an art auction at 6:00, followed by the performance of SISTER ACT, at 7:30 pm.  Tickets for the Foundation’s Dinner and Show may be purchased in the Main Office at Richland Northeast.  Proceeds from the event will be used to provide grants for teachers and students at Richland Northeast High School

SISTER ACT is under the direction of Donna Wilson, with musical direction by Dr. Greg Boatwright and choreography by Nicole Czekalski. David Mitchell, Tony Fling and JoAnna Chriswell are scene, lighting and costume designers for the show.
